ABSTRACT
The rapid development of artificial intelligence, digital algorithms, and social media has fundamentally transformed the way human beings think, make decisions, and construct their identities. Amid the abundance of choices and unlimited access to information, a new paradox emerges: people experience greater freedom while simultaneously having their consciousness subtly shaped by algorithmic systems, the attention economy, and digital connectivity.
This study aims to examine the transformation of human freedom in the digital age from the perspectives of philosophy and Catholic theological anthropology. Employing a qualitative library research design, the study analyzes data through content analysis integrated with a critical hermeneutical approach involving data reduction, conceptual synthesis, philosophical-theological interpretation, and reflective conclusion drawing.
The findings reveal that the central crisis of the digital era is fundamentally anthropological rather than technological. Human freedom is not eliminated directly but reconstructed into an illusion of freedom through algorithmic personalization, digital convenience, and predictive technological systems, gradually weakening reflective autonomy, authentic relationships, and moral responsibility.
The study further argues that the transition toward Homo Digitalis must be counterbalanced by the development of Homo sapiens sapiens, a vision of humanity characterized not merely by knowledge but by moral wisdom capable of directing technology toward the common good.
Grounded in the Christian understanding of the human person as imago Dei, technology should remain an instrument serving human dignity rather than redefining human existence itself.
This study contributes a conceptual synthesis linking contemporary philosophy, Christian anthropology, and digital ethics, thereby offering a renewed theological perspective on human freedom in the age of artificial intelligence.

RESUMENEl rápido desarrollo de la inteligencia artificial, los algoritmos digitales y las redes sociales ha transformado de manera fundamental la forma en que los seres humanos piensan, toman decisiones y construyen sus identidades. En medio de la abundancia de opciones y del acceso ilimitado a la información, surge una nueva paradoja: las personas disfrutan de una mayor libertad, al tiempo que su conciencia se ve sutilmente moldeada por los sistemas algorítmicos, la economía de la atención y la conectividad digital.
El presente estudio tiene como objetivo examinar la transformación de la libertad humana en la era digital desde las perspectivas de la filosofía y la antropología teológica católica. Los resultados revelan que la crisis central de la era digital es fundamentalmente antropológica, más que tecnológica. La libertad humana no se elimina directamente, sino que se reconstruye como una ilusión de libertad a través de la personalización algorítmica, la comodidad digital y los sistemas tecnológicos predictivos, lo que debilita gradualmente la autonomía reflexiva, las relaciones auténticas y la responsabilidad moral.
El estudio sostiene además que la transición hacia el Homo Digitalis debe contrarrestarse con el desarrollo del Homo sapiens sapiens, una visión de la humanidad caracterizada no solo por el conocimiento, sino por la sabiduría moral capaz de orientar la tecnología hacia el bien común.Basándose en la concepción cristiana de la persona humana como imago Dei, la tecnología debería seguir siendo un instrumento al servicio de la dignidad humana, en lugar de redefinir la propia existencia humana.
Este estudio aporta una síntesis conceptual que vincula la filosofía contemporánea, la antropología cristiana y la ética digital, ofreciendo así una perspectiva teológica renovada sobre la libertad humana en la era de la inteligencia artificial.Palabras clave: Inteligencia artificial, Sociedad digital, Libertad humana, Imago Dei, Antropología teológica
