Olivia Maurel (pictured), spokesperson for the Casablanca Declaration and a person born through surrogacy, continued her tour of South America with a visit to Argentina from August 10 to 12, 2026.
On Monday, August 10, Olivia visited Austral University (50 km from Buenos Aires), where she took part in a panel discussion with university professors before an audience of approximately 370 people. The topic was: “What They Don’t Tell You About Surrogacy: A Reflection on Identity and Human Dignity in the Age of Biotechnology.” The discussion continued with a fetal health expert interviewing Olivia before faculty, staff, and students, followed by lunch with the Rector and his team.
Later, Olivia went to the Faculty of Law at the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) for another symposium entitled “Surrogacy: An Interdisciplinary Approach and Life Experiences,” featuring a panel of experts devoted to reflection, analysis, and the exchange of perspectives on contemporary issues related to surrogacy. Olivia shared her testimony after Belén, a mother who gave birth to a child under a surrogacy agreement and is now searching for her child, had spoken. Other speakers included Dr. Susana Medina, from the Argentine Association of Women Judges; Verónica Toller, journalist, Director of the Observatory on Vulnerability and Human Development at Austral University, and Operational Director of the Executive Committee for the Fight against Human Trafficking and Exploitation and for the Protection and Assistance of Victims; and Dr. María José Binetti, who spoke on the philosophical roots of surrogacy.
The following day, August 11, Olivia Maurel gave a public lecture at the Buenos Aires City Legislature entitled “The Other Side of Surrogacy: The Voice of the Children,” attended by 150 people. A video of the event is available here: https://www.youtube.com/live/_
She then went to the Argentine National Congress at the invitation of Congressman Nicolás Mayoraz, Chairman of the Constitutional Affairs Committee of the Chamber of Deputies, who facilitated discussions with Dr. Bernardo García Larraín and Dr. Débora Ranieri, President of the Association for the Promotion of Civil Rights (PRODECI). El lunes 10 de agosto, Olivia visitó la Universidad Austral (a 50 km de Buenos Aires), donde participó en un panel de discusión con profesores universitarios ante una audiencia de aproximadamente 370 personas. El tema fue: “Lo que no te cuentan sobre la maternidad subrogada: una reflexión sobre identidad y dignidad humana en la era de la biotecnología”. La discusión continuó con una experta en salud fetal que interrogó a Olivia frente al personal y los estudiantes, seguida de un almuerzo con el rector y su equipo. Posteriormente, Olivia se dirigió a la Facultad de Derecho de la Universidad de Buenos Aires (UBA) para un nuevo simposio sobre el tema: “Gestación subrogada: abordaje interdisciplinario y experiencias de vida”, un panel de expertos dedicado a la reflexión, el análisis y el intercambio de puntos de vista sobre temas contemporáneos relacionados con la gestación subrogada. Olivia expuso su testimonio luego de que hablara Belén, una madre que dio a luz un hijo en el marco de un contrato de subrogación y que ahora busca a su hijo. También expusieron la Dra. Susana Medina, de la Asociación de Mujeres Jueces de la Argentina, Verónica Toller, periodista, directora del Observatorio de Vulnerabilidad y Desarrollo Humano de la Universidad Austral y Directora Operativa del Comité Ejecutivo para la Lucha contra la Trata y Explotación de Personas y la Protección y Asistencia de las Víctimas y la Dra. María José Binetti, sobre las raíces filosóficas de la maternidad subrogada.
Al día siguiente, el 11 de agosto, Olivia Maurel impartió una conferencia pública en la Asamblea Legislativa de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires titulada: “La otra cara de la gestación subrogada: la voz de los niños”, con una participación de 150 personas.
