The European Institute of Bioethics is a research centre dedicated to biomedical ethics. The IEB was founded in 2001 as a non-profit association and is based in Brussels. Its experts work closely with academics and healthcare professionals. Independent of any institutional structure, the IEB aims to inform, educate and raise awareness among citizens, healthcare professionals and policymakers about bioethical issues, with a view to promoting an ethics grounded in the advancement of the human person and respect for human dignity. This mission is particularly urgent in a social context in which a utilitarian culture tends to obscure human interdependence and the vital need for relationships with others. Among the many initiatives promoted by the IEB is the BIOETHICS MANUAL, a book written by the world's leading experts and intended for the general public.  (This book is especially recommended for students.)
