The International Conference – A Natural Law Discussion: From the Ancients to Contemporary Thought will bring together leading international scholars, jurists, philosophers, and theologians at the Università Europea di Roma from 1–3 October 2026. Organized by the International Catholic Jurists Forum, the Lumen De Lumine Foundation, the Centro Studi Livatino, and the Iuris Naturalis Societas, the conference aims to foster an interdisciplinary dialogue between the classical natural law tradition and the most pressing legal, ethical, and cultural challenges of the twenty-first century.
Over three days, the programme will feature keynote lectures, panel sessions, and round-table discussions addressing topics such as the historical development of natural law, the relationship between ius and lex, Thomistic legal realism, constitutionalism, human rights, bioethics, artificial intelligence, new technologies, the School of Salamanca, legal positivism, and the role of the Church in contemporary society. The conference will open with a Lectio Magistralis delivered by Cardinal Raymond Leo Burke, and will include contributions from internationally renowned scholars representing a wide range of academic disciplines and legal traditions.
Beyond its academic programme, the conference is designed to promote international collaboration and intellectual exchange among scholars, judges, lawyers, graduate students, and researchers. Through formal discussions as well as networking sessions, receptions, and shared meals, participants will have the opportunity to establish new research partnerships, exchange ideas, and contribute to a renewed reflection on law, justice, human dignity, and the enduring relevance of the natural law tradition in today's world.
