Carlos Augusto Casanova Guerra (Caracas, Venezuela, 1966) is a Venezuelan philosopher and legal scholar specializing in metaphysics, ethics, natural law, and political philosophy. He holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Navarra (1995), where he wrote a dissertation on the political thought of Eric Voegelin. He also earned a Law degree (LL.B.) from the Universidad Católica Andrés Bello (1988) and completed further philosophical studies at the Universidad Simón Bolívar. Casanova has taught and conducted research at several universities in Latin America, Europe, and the United States, including positions at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and Universidad Santo Tomás (Chile). He has also been affiliated with the University of Notre Dame as a research associate and currently serves as a visiting professor at the University of Florida, where he is connected with the Hamilton Center for Classical and Civic Education. His work focuses on classical and Thomistic philosophy, the foundations of rights, and the relationship between metaphysics, natural science, and political order; among his publications are Reflexiones metafísicas sobre la ciencia natural, The Soul, Providence and Natural Law (edited volume), and Genealogies of Rights: On the Origins of Two Conflicting Versions of Rights.
