Aldo Vendemiati (Italia)

Aldo Vendemiati is an Italian philosopher and ethicist. He is a member of the Pontifical Academy of St. Thomas Aquinas and teaches at the Institute of Philosophical Studies “Sacro Cuore” in Campobasso, Italy.
He completed his early education in classical studies and pursued higher education in philosophy and theology at Rome-based universities. He obtained degrees in Philosophy and Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University, followed by a degree in Philosophy from the University of Rome “Tor Vergata” with a thesis on Dietrich von Hildebrand. He later earned a PhD in Philosophy from the Pontifical Lateran University with a dissertation on natural law in Thomas Aquinas’s Summa Theologiae, and a PhD in Moral Theology from the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross, specializing in bioethics.
He has held teaching appointments at several Italian universities and higher education institutions, including the Pontifical Lateran University and the University of Molise. From 1995 to 2025, he taught at the Pontifical Urbaniana University in Rome, where he also served for three terms as Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy.
His research focuses on foundational issues in ethics (In prima persona, 4th ed., Rome 2017; Dio nell’etica, Rome 2021), examined in dialogue with the philosophical tradition (San Tommaso e legge naturale, Rome 2011; Il diritto naturale dalla scolastica francescana alla riforma protestante), phenomenology (Fenomenologia e realismo, Naples 1992), and contemporary ethical debates (Universalismo e relativismo nell’etica contemporanea, Genoa–Milan 2008). He has also contributed to research in bioethics (La specificità bio-etica, Soveria Mannelli 2002) and social ethics (In comunità, Rome 2013).
